Tenacity, Persistence, and Resilience: How to build a great company.

When we define the entrepreneurial nature of great companies and teams, we often use the words tenacity, persistence, and resilience. To live these words is very difficult to do and harder than I had ever imagined. To never give up, to find a way to solve the unsolvable, and to take the next step forward when there might not be an obvious path or direction, is not an easy task.  To be calm and grounded enough to act in the face of odds that may seem insurmountable is what defines a great team and sets the foundation to build a great company.

In my career, I have funded over 40 companies, and have operated some of them as well. I can only now say I didn’t fully appreciate what it takes to build a good company that thrives nor how critical it is to assemble a team that works together and aligns itself to a set of core principles. Cohesive teams are not built overnight. It may take a while to find the right mix and balance of skills that can overcome adversity and seize an opportunity when presented.

I am honored to be part of a team like this at Ultra Capital. Our model is new, and our investment approach is different. Developing a new concept and building a team with past experiences that enable the creation of a company that stands out is so much more than any book could ever describe.

I appreciate and respect all of our investors, partners, and team members current and past who are helping us build out a vision and a mission to deliver investment returns based on efficiency and reuse of our critical resources. For a long time, this has been my deepest passion and commitment, and to see this team of talented professionals that I work with, commit to this vision is significant. This has been no small endeavor, but I believe the cause is worth the extraordinary effort. My sincere thanks to everyone who has been a part of, and continues to help us achieve our mission to help sustain a healthy planet.
